This is Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend and the tweets and announcements coming from Florida have been exciting! With a new marathon relay option (how fun would that be) and a commemorative 15th anniversary hlaf marathon medal, the event is turning out record breaking numbers.
Reality TV couples Ethan Zohn (also a cancer survivor) and Jenna Morasco from Survivor and Trista and Ryan Sutter from The Bachelor will be participating in the half marathon tomorrow. They will be running along with four wounded veterans who are part of the Achilles Freedom Team, which supports disabled runners.
The new relay option allows runners the opportunity to pair up and split the 26.2 marathon course that will take them through all four Disney theme parks - Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios. What a journey! To top it off, these runners also get a special Chip and Dale medal along with the 15th anniversary commemorative one-of-a-kind Donald Duck half marathon medal.
With a record breaking 56,000 total runners this weekend, the fun-filled events are all sold out. The running events will include the full marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, Family Fiesta 5K, and the Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge. This challenge involves running the half marathon on Saturday and the full marathon on Sunday for a total of 39.3 miles. Whew!
All of this has me wishing that I was in sunny Florida right now, where I hear the weather is going to be beautiful. It also has me super excited for the next runDisney event on my side of the country, the Tinker Bell Half Marathon.
